Tight Spot

Tight Spot is a 1955 crime drama about a woman serving time in prison who is offered her freedom in exchange for testifying against a powerful gangster. Sherry Conley, a former model, becomes the prosecution's key witness after their earlier witness is killed. District Attorney Lloyd Hallett hides her in a hotel under police guard while he tries to persuade her to take the stand, but the gangster Benjamin Costain works to reach her before the trial, pressuring the detective assigned to protect her.

Phil Karlson directed the film, which sits between Kansas City Confidential and Scandal Sheet in his filmography and came well before later work such as Walking Tall and Framed. William Bowers wrote the screenplay, and Lewis J. Rachmil produced it for Columbia Pictures. Ginger Rogers plays Sherry Conley, with Edward G. Robinson as Lloyd Hallett, Brian Keith as detective Vince Striker, Lorne Greene as Benjamin Costain, and Katherine Anderson as Mrs. Willoughby. Thirty-two cast members are credited.
