Carly has never understood the cruelty of her mother, who was responsible for the deaths of more than twenty people. Years after the tragedy, a secret organization offers her answers. Using a device that can project another person's consciousness, Carly enters her mother's mind, where she confronts an ancient evil that threatens to consume her as well.
Neill Blomkamp wrote and directed the film, and produced it with Stuart Ford and Linda McDonough. It follows his earlier features District 9, Elysium and Chappie, and preceded Gran Turismo. Carly Pope plays Carly, with Nathalie Boltt as her mother Angela, alongside Chris William Martin, Michael J Rogers, Kandyse McClure and Terry Chen. The production was handled by AGC Studios, Oats Studios and Stabiliti Studios in Canada and the United States, and the film runs 104 minutes.
Reception was poor. On IMDb it holds 4.3 out of 10 from around 6,700 votes, and on TMDB 4.8 out of 10 from just over 300 votes. A critics' rating of 4.2 out of 10 from 80 reviews puts professional response roughly in line with the audience scores, with neither group regarding this blend of horror and science fiction as a success.
