Elizabeth Austin, played by Joan Crawford, leads a criminal gang but faces a crisis when her eyesight begins to fail. While her lover, the gang's hard-edged Matt Jackson, goes into hiding, she checks into a hospital for surgery to restore her sight. There she is treated by a young doctor, Ben Halleck, and the two develop feelings for each other even as her partner's jealousy grows and the authorities close in on the gang.
Felix E. Feist directed this 1952 Warner Bros. crime drama, his eleventh film as director, from a screenplay by George Worthing Yates and Daniel Mainwaring; Robert Sisk produced. Crawford plays the ailing gang leader opposite Dennis Morgan as the surgeon, with David Brian as Matt Jackson and Richard Webb, Mari Aldon and Philip Carey among the credited cast of 51.
Released in February 1952 and running 100 minutes, the film draws modest ratings from audiences, sitting at 6.1 out of 10 on IMDb from around 1,300 votes and 5.9 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller sample of 23. The two figures are close, suggesting viewers generally regard it as an ordinary example of its genre rather than a standout.
