Funny Birds

Funny Birds follows a young woman, Charlie, who returns to her family's small organic egg farm to care for her ill mother, Laura. The two have long held different views on life, and Charlie must balance her studies in finance with running the farm. Their already strained household is upended by the arrival of Laura's mother, Solange, an eccentric French feminist who left the country years earlier, when Laura was still a child, and had little contact with her daughter since. The reunion of three generations of women, each with her own idea of how to live, forms the centre of the story.

The film is directed by Marco La Via and Hanna Ladoul, who also wrote the screenplay, and was released in 2024. It runs 93 minutes and is a comedy-drama co-produced by Belgium and France. Catherine Deneuve plays Solange, Andrea Riseborough plays Laura and Morgan Saylor plays Charlie, with supporting roles from Naima Hebrail Kidjo, John Robinson and Maria McClurg. The production credits list 48 crew members.

Audience response has been moderate: on IMDb the film holds a rating of 5.6 from 304 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.1 from 36 votes.
