The Apparition

Kelly and Ben are a young couple who take part in a parapsychology experiment at a university, one intended to test whether paranormal phenomena are real. Something goes wrong, and the two find themselves haunted by a presence that was released during the test. The entity feeds on their fear and follows them wherever they go, so that no change of scene offers relief. At a loss, they seek out Patrick, a researcher who specialises in the supernatural, though his help may come too late.

The Apparition was directed and written by Todd Lincoln, and it was his first feature, followed by his segment in the anthology V/H/S: Viral. Joel Silver and Alex Heineman produced. Ashley Greene and Sebastian Stan play Kelly and Ben, with Tom Felton as Patrick and supporting turns from Julianna Guill, Anna Clark and Suzanne Ford. The film was a co-production between the United States and Germany, made with a budget of about 17 million dollars, and its worldwide box office take was roughly 10 million, well short of its cost.
