Aloners centres on Ji-na, a top performer at a credit card company call centre who keeps her distance from everyone around her. She lives and works alone by choice, treating solitude as her natural state, and her relationship with her father has grown distant. When a new recruit is assigned to her for training, and when her neighbour is found dead in his apartment days after dying unnoticed, the walls she has built around her life begin to show cracks. The arrival of a talkative colleague and a new tenant next door push her to reconsider her isolation.
The film is the first feature directed and written by Hong Sung-eun, produced by Lee Seung-won and made under the Korean Film Council and the Korean Academy of Film Arts. Gong Seung-yeon plays Ji-na, with Jeong Da-eun as Soo-jin, Seo Hyun-woo as Seong-hoon, Kim Hae-na as the team leader, Kim Mo-beom as the neighbour and Park Jeong-hak as the father. It runs 91 minutes.
Critical response was warmer than that of general audiences: critics gave it 7.5 out of 10 across 48 reviews, while it holds 6.9 on IMDb from around 3,400 votes and 6.8 on TMDB from about 131 votes. That gap suggests a film valued more by reviewers than by the broader viewing public.
