Napoleon Dynamite

Napoleon Dynamite is a teenager living in a small town in rural Idaho with his grandmother and his older brother, Kip. An awkward outsider at school and at home, he spends his time drawing imaginary creatures, arguing with Kip, and staying clear of his uncle Rico, who is always chasing some new moneymaking scheme. When a new friend, Pedro, decides to run for class president against the popular Summer, Napoleon agrees to help with the campaign. At the same time he navigates school life and a run of odd family circumstances.

Jared Hess directed the film and wrote the screenplay with Jerusha Hess. Released in 2004, it was the first feature he directed, followed by Nacho Libre, Gentlemen Broncos, Masterminds, Ninety-Five Senses, Thelma the Unicorn, and A Minecraft Movie. Jon Heder plays Napoleon, with Efren Ramirez as Pedro, Tina Majorino as Deb, Aaron Ruell as Kip, Jon Gries as Uncle Rico, and Sandy Martin as Grandma.

Made by Paramount, Fox Searchlight Pictures, MTV Films, and Cinetic Media, the film took in about 46 million dollars worldwide. It holds a 7 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 254,000 votes, a 6.8 out of 10 on TMDB from around 2,261 votes, and a critics' rating of 6.4 out of 10 from 172 reviews, so audiences have rated it slightly higher than critics have.
