The Good Boss

Julio Blanco runs Básculas Blanco, a family company in a provincial Spanish town that manufactures industrial scales. The business is in the running for a local award for excellence in management, and a committee is due to visit to decide whether it deserves the prize. Blanco needs everything to look flawless on the day, but problems keep surfacing among his staff. As the deadline closes in, he sets out to settle each of these difficulties personally, and in doing so goes far beyond what his position should allow.

Fernando León de Aranoa wrote and directed the film, which followed his earlier features Princesses, A Perfect Day and Loving Pablo, and he produced it with Jaume Roures. Javier Bardem plays Julio Blanco, heading a cast that includes Manolo Solo as Miralles, Almudena Amor as Liliana, Óscar de la Fuente as José, Sonia Almarcha as Adela and Fernando Albizu as Román. The film is a Spanish production and runs for two hours.

It drew a critics' rating of 7.4 out of 10 from 113 reviews, somewhat higher than its audience scores of 7.1 out of 10 on IMDb from around 16,000 votes and 6.9 out of 10 on TMDB from 486 votes. The wide gap between the number of IMDb and TMDB votes reflects the film's stronger following among IMDb users.
