Gorky Park

Gorky Park is a crime mystery set in Moscow, where police inspector Arkady Renko investigates three bodies discovered in the city's Gorky Park. The victims have been shot and their faces left unrecognizable, making identification difficult. Renko's superiors show little interest in the case, and he soon finds his work obstructed, leading him to pursue leads on his own. What begins as a murder inquiry widens into something far larger, pointing toward powerful figures and connections reaching beyond Moscow.

The film was directed by Michael Apted, the fourth of nineteen features in his directing career, following Continental Divide and preceding Firstborn. Dennis Potter wrote the screenplay, and the cast includes William Hurt as Renko, Lee Marvin as Jack Osborne, Brian Dennehy as William Kirwill, Ian Bannen as Iamskoy, Joanna Pacula as Irina and Michael Elphick as Pasha. It was produced by Hawk Koch and Gene Kirkwood.

Released in December 1983, the film drew modest commercial returns, with worldwide box office of about 16 million dollars. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.3 out of 10 from roughly 350 votes, while a critics' rating of 6.6 out of 10 from 27 reviews places critical response slightly above the audience score, though both sit in mixed territory.
