Short description
Two high schoolers find hope as they fight to save an old wartime era clubhouse from destruction during the preparations for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.
What's left behind the scenes
- In a scene near the store, Umi asks Shun where he lives (minute 25 of the film). Shun replies with something akin to "Mononoke." This is a reference to Hayao Miyazaki's film "Princess Mononoke" (1997). Strangely, in the Russian version of "From Up on Poppy Hill," there's another reference to this film. The actress who voices Umi also voiced Mononoke, and the actress who voices Umi's mother also voiced Lady Eboshi – Mononoke's enemy.
