Paloma

Paloma follows a transgender woman who works on a papaya plantation and saves her earnings to marry her partner, Zé, in a traditional church ceremony. When the priest refuses to perform the wedding, she must face the prejudices and injustices of her rural community. Her determination to challenge social conventions in a small town puts her stability at risk and draws national attention.

Directed by Marcelo Gomes, the drama is the second of five listed films in his career, following Aspirins and Vultures. The screenplay was written by Gomes along with Gustavo Campos and Armando Praça. The film stars Kika Sena in the title role and Ridson Reis as Zé, supported by a credited cast of 38 actors. A co-production between Brazil and Portugal, the project involved production companies including Ukbar Filmes and Gullane Entretenimento.
