The Exorcism of God

The Exorcism of God follows Father Peter Williams, an American priest serving in Mexico who is widely regarded as a saint by the parishioners he tends to. Behind that reputation he carries a burdensome secret connected to an exorcism that went wrong years earlier, and the guilt of it has worn him down. When the evil from that episode resurfaces, he is forced to confront it once more.

Alejandro Hidalgo directed the film, his second feature after The House at the End of Time (2013), working from a screenplay he wrote with Santiago Fernández Calvete. Will Beinbrink plays Father Williams, with María Gabriela de Faría as Esperanza, Irán Castillo as Magali, Joseph Marcell as Father Michael Lewis, Hector Kotsifakis as Dr. Nelson and Juan Ignacio Aranda as Bishop Balducci. It was made as a co-production between Venezuela, Mexico and the United States.

The film was released in March 2022 and runs 98 minutes. Made for about 2 million dollars, it took roughly 6 million dollars worldwide, a solid return on its budget. Audience response on IMDb stands at 5.3 out of 10 from around 6,300 votes, while on TMDB it holds 7.1 out of 10 from about 1,177 votes. A critics' rating of 5.1 out of 10 from 14 reviews places it below the TMDB audience figure.
