Angela and Bob Brooks are a wealthy married couple, but Bob has been unfaithful. Angela devises a plan to win him back: at an elaborate masquerade ball held aboard a dirigible, she appears in disguise as the notorious Madame Satan, hoping to seduce her unwitting husband and teach him a lesson.
Cecil B. DeMille directed and produced this comedy-musical romance for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, working from a screenplay by Gladys Unger, Jeanie Macpherson and Elsie Janis. It followed The Affairs of Anatol and his 1923 version of The Ten Commandments in his filmography, and preceded Cleopatra. Kay Johnson plays Angela, with Reginald Denny as Bob, Lillian Roth as Trixie, Roland Young as Jimmy Wade, Elsa Peterson as Martha and Jack King as Herman. The credited cast runs to 57 performers, reflecting the scale of the production, which was released on September 20, 1930 and runs 116 minutes.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.3 out of 10 from around 1,500 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.9 out of 10 from 28 votes. The larger IMDb sample points to moderate, fairly settled appreciation, and the two scores are close enough to suggest a similar overall impression.
