Peggy Pepper arrives in Hollywood from Georgia with dreams of becoming a serious dramatic actress, and her father comes along to help her get a screen test. With the help of Billy Boone, a comedy performer she meets, she gets a chance at the movies, though her path does not unfold quite as she expects. The two grow close as she is drawn toward a more glamorous studio and a new persona, Patricia Pepoire, which puts her relationship with Billy under strain.
King Vidor directed this 1928 comedy romance, which followed The Big Parade in his filmography and preceded Hallelujah. Wanda Tuchock, Ralph Spence and Laurence Stallings wrote the screenplay, and Irving Thalberg, Marion Davies and Vidor produced it for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Cosmopolitan Productions. Marion Davies stars as Peggy, with William Haines as Billy Boone, Dell Henderson as Colonel Pepper, Paul Ralli as Andre Telfair, Tenen Holtz as the casting director and Harry Gribbon as the comedy director. The credited cast numbers 48.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 7.6 from about 4,200 votes, while on TMDB it rates 7.1 from a much smaller base of 56 votes.
