The 6th Day
Short description
The 6th Day is set in a near-future world where cloning animals has become routine, but duplicating human beings remains illegal. Adam Gibson, a helicopter pilot, returns home after work to find that a clone has taken his place with his family. When the people behind the copy learn he is still alive, they set out to eliminate him, and he has to work out who is responsible for what has happened to him.
Roger Spottiswoode directed the film, the ninth of the fourteen features he has made, following Tomorrow Never Dies and preceding Ice Bound. Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as Adam Gibson and also produced, alongside Jon Davison and Mike Medavoy. The screenplay is by Cormac Wibberley and Marianne Wibberley. The cast includes Michael Rapaport, Tony Goldwyn, Michael Rooker, Robert Duvall and Sarah Wynter, with 63 credited cast members and 140 credited crew.
Released in November 2000, the film was made for about 82 million US dollars and took roughly 96 million worldwide, a return below its production cost. On IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from around 134,000 votes, and on TMDB 6 out of 10 from about 2,354 votes. A critics' rating of 5.8 out of 10 from 116 reviews places it close to the audience scores.
What's left behind the scenes
- The filmmakers were forced to change the spelling of the film's title from “The Sixth Day” to “The 6th Day” to avoid confusion with the previously released film “The Sixth Sense”.
- Arnold Schwarzenegger delivers his iconic phrase, “I’ll be back,” albeit in a slightly modified form, as he leaves the cloned pet store. He says to the shopkeeper, “I might be back,” to which the shopkeeper confidently replies, “You’ll be back.”
- The majority of the film was shot in Canada, in Burnaby, Vancouver, Toronto, and Richmond.
