Fanaa

Fanaa is a Hindi-language romantic thriller about Zooni Ali Beg, a blind Kashmiri woman who travels to Delhi with a dance troupe to perform at an Independence Day ceremony. There she meets Rehan Qadri, a charming tour guide, and despite her friends' warnings about his reputation, she falls in love with him. Rehan is not what he appears to be, and the truth forces Zooni into a decision she never expected to face.

The film was directed by Kunal Kohli, his second feature after Mujhse Dosti Karoge! in 2002. Aamir Khan plays Rehan and Kajol plays Zooni, with Rishi Kapoor and Kirron Kher as Zooni's parents, Sanaya Irani as Mehbooba, and Shiney Ahuja as Major Suraj Ahuja. Shibani Bathija wrote the screenplay, and Aditya Chopra produced it for Yash Raj Films. Made on a budget of about 5 million dollars, it took roughly 22 million dollars worldwide.

On IMDb, Fanaa holds a rating of 7.1 from around 37,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.7 from about 241 votes. The much larger vote count on IMDb suggests a broad, committed viewership. The gap between the two scores is modest. At 168 minutes, the film carries its action, drama, romance and thriller elements across a substantial running time, and the strong return on its budget indicates it found a wide audience on release in May 2006.
