Short description

Twenty-five years after environmental collapse left the Earth uninhabitable, Mother, Father and Son are confined to their palatial bunker, where they struggle to maintain hope and a sense of normalcy by clinging to the rituals of daily life—until the arrival of a stranger, Girl, upends their happy routine. As tensions rise, their seemingly idyllic existence starts to crumble.

Director, screenwriter, and producer Joshua Oppenheimer claimed that his film is an attempt to answer whether people can reach a state where the guilt is too great to recover from the past.
Among the masterpieces on the wall, one can spot John Singer Sargent's painting 'Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose.' In 1897, Sargent painted a full-length portrait of Tilda Swinton's great-great-grandmother (Tilda Swinton plays the mother here). Sketches made by Sargent's own hand have been preserved at the Swinton family estate.
