Short description
A special operations unit called the Rapid Response Tactical Squad is deployed to the Olduvai research station on Mars after communication is lost and a security breach is reported. Led by Sarge, the team enters the facility to find it under a high-level quarantine. They discover that an experiment involving alien DNA has gone wrong, as a test subject has escaped and begun killing the staff. Dr. Grimm, who is related to a team member named Reaper, explains that the alien chromosomes are infectious and capable of mutating humans into violent monsters.
Directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, this action horror film was released in 2005 and is the fourth project in the director's chronological filmography. The movie stars Dwayne Johnson as Sarge, Karl Urban as Reaper, and Rosamund Pike as Samantha Grimm. It was a co-production between the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and the Czech Republic.
The film operated on a 60 million USD budget and earned slightly less than that amount, with 58 million USD in worldwide box office returns. Audience reception is mixed, with a 5.2 rating on IMDb from 123,000 votes and a 5.2 rating on TMDB from 2,533 votes. Professional critics gave the film a lower score of 4.2.

- Todd Hollenshead, CEO of id Software, was involved in the film's creation from the beginning of production. He reviewed and approved the scripts.
- The tattoo on The Rock's back, "SEMPER FI," is a standard abbreviation used by Marines for the Latin phrase that is the motto of the U.S. Marine Corps – Semper fidelis (Always faithful).

- In the original description of the game “Doom,” the abbreviation for the weapon fired by Dwayne Johnson’s character in the finale is deciphered as “Big Fucking Gun.”
- The director's cut of the film has a runtime of 113 minutes.
- The assault rifles used by the marines are modified German G36 assault rifles.
- The film is based on the computer game series «Doom» (1993 – present, id Software).
- The Marine played by Karl Urban is originally nicknamed “Reaper,” meaning “Grim Reaper,” while his last name is “Grimm.” This is an untranslatable play on words – grim reaper being an English euphemism for death.
