Asterix vs. Caesar

Obelix falls for Falbala, a young woman who has recently come to the Gaulish village that still holds out against Rome. His hopes are dashed when her fiancé, Tragicomix, arrives, and the couple are soon seized by Romans and sent far away. Asterix, Obelix and the little dog Dogmatix set out after them, a pursuit that carries the friends across the desert and eventually to Rome itself, where Caesar's birthday games are being prepared. The film is an animated adaptation of the comic-book adventure in which the two Gauls rescue the kidnapped lovers.

Gaëtan Brizzi and Paul Brizzi directed this 1985 French production, the first feature in their directing filmography ahead of Fantasia 2000. Pierre Tchernia wrote the screenplay, Yannik Piel produced it, and the voice cast is led by Roger Carel as Asterix, Pierre Tornade as Obelix, Pierre Mondy as Caius, Serge Sauvion as Caesar and Henri Labussière as the druid Panoramix, with 23 credited cast members and 42 credited crew.
