Weekend Rebels

Weekend Rebels follows Mirco, a father whose ten-year-old son Jason is autistic and struggling at school, where teasing and provocation lead to behavioural problems. When the family is advised to move Jason to a special school, father and son make a deal: Jason will work on controlling his reactions if Mirco helps him find a favourite football club. Jason's requirements are unusually precise, and he insists on seeing every club play live in its own stadium before he decides, whatever division it plays in.

The German comedy-drama was directed by Marc Rothemund, working from a screenplay by Richard Kropf and Mirco von Juterczenka. It is the eighth film in Rothemund's directing chronology, following My Blind Date with Life and This Crazy Heart, both from 2017, and arriving before Ein fast perfekter Antrag and Das gewisse Etwas. Florian David Fitz plays Mirco, with Aylin Tezel as Fatime and Cecilio Andresen as Jason; Joachim Król, Petra-Maria Cammin and Leslie Malton also appear among the 35 credited cast members. Produced by Wiedemann & Berg Film, SevenPictures Film and Leonine Studios, the film took about 8 million US dollars worldwide.
