The Ear

A government official named Ludvik and his wife, Anna, return home from a party to discover that their residence is under surveillance. Suspecting that they are being listened to by mysterious figures, the couple descends into a state of paranoia throughout the night. As Ludvik worries about a possible arrest following the disappearance of several colleagues, the stress of the situation exposes deep tensions and long-standing problems within the couple's marriage.

Directed by Karel Kachyňa, the film was produced by Filmové studio Barrandov in Czechoslovakia. Kachyňa also co-wrote the screenplay with Jan Procházka. This work follows his 1974 film Horká zima and precedes The Last Butterfly and Kožené slunce. The cast features Radoslav Brzobohatý as Ludvik, Jiřina Bohdalová as Anna, and Bořivoj Navrátil as Cejnar. This drama and mystery thriller has a runtime of 95 minutes.
