For Love or Money

Doug Ireland works as a concierge at a luxury hotel in New York, where he is known for handling whatever his wealthy guests need. His own ambition is to leave that job behind and open a hotel of his own in a renovated building on Roosevelt Island, but the project depends on securing a large investment before his option on the property runs out. The investor he has in mind, the wealthy Christian Hanover, asks Doug to help keep his affair with a saleswoman named Andy Hart out of sight of his wife. Doug agrees, even though he is drawn to Andy himself, and finds himself caught between his professional hopes and his feelings for her.

Barry Sonnenfeld directed the film, which followed his two Addams Family films and came before Get Shorty and Men in Black in his filmography. Lawrence Konner and Mark Rosenthal wrote the screenplay, and Brian Grazer and Graham Place produced it for Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment. Michael J. Fox plays Doug, with Gabrielle Anwar as Andy, Anthony Higgins as Christian, and Fyvush Finkel, Sandra Reaves-Phillips and LaChanze among the credited cast.

The film runs 94 minutes and was released in October 1993. Made for a budget of about 30 million dollars, it earned roughly 11 million dollars worldwide, a fraction of its cost. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.2 out of 10 from around 17,000 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 6.2 from a few hundred votes.
