Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home

Jesse, now a teenager living with his adoptive parents, is reunited with the orca Willy a few years after helping the whale return to the ocean. Their reunion is cut short when an oil tanker runs aground and a spill threatens Willy and the other marine life in the area. Jesse sets out to rescue his old friend and the pod Willy has joined.

Dwight H. Little directed the film, the sixth in his feature filmography following Rapid Fire. Corey Blechman, John Mattson and Karen Janszen wrote the screenplay, with Lauren Shuler Donner and Jennie Lew Tugend producing. Jason James Richter returns as Jesse, joined by Michael Madsen as Glen Greenwood, Jayne Atkinson as Annie Greenwood, August Schellenberg as Randolph Johnson, Mary Kate Schellhardt and Francis Capra, among a credited cast of 33. The film was made for about 31 million US dollars and earned roughly the same amount worldwide.

Audience response was moderate: on IMDb it holds 5.1 out of 10 from around 21,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.9 out of 10 from 664 votes. A film critics' score of 4.8 out of 10 from 26 reviews places it below the audience figures.
