Kinetta is a Greek drama set in the off-season at a near-deserted seaside resort of the same name. Three strangers come together there: a hotel chambermaid, a photo-store clerk and a man preoccupied with BMW cars. They stage and document clumsy re-enactments of violent encounters between a man and a woman, with the chambermaid playing the victim, and gradually the line between their project and their everyday lives blurs.
The film was directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, who wrote the screenplay with Yorgos Kakanakis. It was his second feature, arriving a decade after The Rape of Chloe and four years before Dogtooth, at the start of the run that would later include Alps, The Lobster, The Favourite and Poor Things. Athina Rachel Tsangari produced. Evangelia Randou plays the chambermaid, Aris Servetalis the photo-store clerk and Costas Xikominos the car-obsessed man, with Ektoras Kaloudis, Vasilis Karaboulas and Steve Krikris in supporting roles.
Rated 4.6 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 3,300 votes, and 5 out of 10 on TMDB from about 128 votes, the film drew limited and mixed responses from viewers on both platforms, where voting is heaviest among the smaller audience that seeks out art-house Greek cinema.
