Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In

In 1980s Hong Kong, the Kowloon Walled City is a densely packed enclave where British law does not reach and gangs control the streets. Chan Lok-kwun, an illegal migrant from mainland China, arrives there after being cheated by the crime boss Mr. Big while trying to obtain a false identity card. He steals a bag of drugs from Mr. Big, flees into the Walled City, and is taken in by Cyclone, the community's authoritative leader. Sheltered by Cyclone, Chan finds a home and friendships among the district's outcasts, and joins their stand against Mr. Big's attempts to extend his power over the area.

Soi Cheang directed the film, his ninth feature by the production order listed, arriving after Mad Fate and before Peacekeeper Elite: Metro Escape. Au Kin-Yee, Tai-lee Chan and Shum Kwan-Sin wrote the screenplay, and John Chong, Wilson Yip and Peter Lam produced it. Raymond Lam plays Chan Lok-kwun, Louis Koo plays Cyclone and Sammo Hung plays Mr. Big, with Richie Jen, Terrance Lau and Kenny Wong Tak-Ban also in the cast.

Produced in Hong Kong and China on a reported budget of 38 million US dollars, the film took about 95 million US dollars worldwide, a strong return on its cost. On IMDb it holds 6.9 from around 12,000 votes, and on TMDB 7 from roughly 483 votes. A critics' rating of 7.6 from 42 reviews sits above both audience scores, indicating a warmer reception among reviewers than among viewers.
