S.W.A.T.

S.W.A.T. follows Los Angeles police officer Jim Street, whose career stalls after a botched robbery leaves him at odds with his partner, Brian Gamble. Sergeant Dan "Hondo" Harrelson gives Street a second chance by recruiting him into a new elite unit, and together they assemble a small team of officers with contrasting temperaments. Their first assignment is to transfer a captured international drug trafficker, Alex Montel, into federal custody. The task turns perilous when Montel publicly offers a fortune to anyone who can free him, drawing armed opportunists and organised crews toward the convoy. The film is based on the 1970s television series of the same name.

Clark Johnson directs, working from a screenplay by David McKenna and David Ayer. It was his second feature, following the 2001 television film Boycott, and it precedes The Sentinel, Juanita and Percy in his filmography. Samuel L. Jackson plays Hondo, with Colin Farrell as Street, Michelle Rodriguez as Chris Sanchez, LL Cool J as Deacon Kaye, Josh Charles as T.J. McCabe and Jeremy Renner as Gamble. The production, mounted by Columbia Pictures with Original Film and other partners, carried a budget of about 80 million dollars and returned roughly 208 million dollars worldwide.

Audience response on IMDb sits at 6.1 out of 10 from some 160,000 votes, while on TMDB it is 6.2 from a much smaller pool of voters. A film critics' rating of 5.6 from 166 reviews places professional appraisal slightly below the viewer scores.
