Poison Ivy

Sylvie Cooper is an introverted student at a privileged private school, unhappy within her wealthy family: her father, Darryl, works in television and her mother, Georgie, is ill. When a bold stunt at her father's workplace brings Sylvie attention, she falls in with a charming classmate, Ivy, who comes from a very different background and lives with an aunt. The friendship soon pulls Ivy into the Cooper household, where she works her way into the family's affections and begins manipulating everyone around her. What starts as a rebellious bond between two misfits turns into a struggle over the home itself, and Sylvie eventually has to find the will to fight back against the girl she brought inside.

The film is a drama-thriller made by New Line Cinema and was written by Katt Shea and Andy Ruben, who also produced; Shea directed. It was the first of the four features Shea has directed, ahead of The Rage: Carrie 2, Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase and Rescued by Ruby. Drew Barrymore plays Ivy, with Tom Skerritt, Sara Gilbert, Cheryl Ladd, Alan Stock and Jeanne Sakata among the twenty-five credited cast members.

Released in 1992 and running 92 minutes, the film was made for about 3 million dollars and returned roughly 2 million worldwide, so it did not recover its production cost. It holds a 5.4 rating on IMDb from around 21,000 votes and the same 5.4 on TMDB from roughly 400 votes, while the film critics' rating stands at 4.6 from thirty-three reviews.
