Microcosmos

This documentary explores the daily existence of insects and small creatures inhabiting a meadow and its ponds. Using macro photography, slow motion, and time-lapse techniques, the film presents a world where grass appears as an impenetrable forest and dew drops look like large balloons. The narrative follows various animals over the course of one day, featuring bees gathering nectar, ladybugs hunting mites, spiders capturing prey, and a scarab beetle moving a ball of dung. It also captures the mating of snails and the hatching of a mosquito.

Directed by Claude Nuridsany and Marie Pérennou, who also wrote the screenplay, the film features the voice of Jacques Perrin as the narrator. A co-production between France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, and the United States, the project involved a crew of 94 people. Produced by Yvette Mallet, Christophe Barratier, and Jacques Perrin, the film had a budget of 5 million USD and earned 1 million USD at the worldwide box office.
