Short description

With the help of the Little Stone, the Hedgehog and the Great Bird, Emilie saves little blue rabbit Gilbert and the fantasy world. Throughout her adventure, she discovers the value of courage, friendship and generosity.

What's left behind the scenes

The basis for the animated film was the eponymous and very famous musical fairy tale "Émilie Jolie" by Philippe Chatel, first recorded and released on vinyl in 1979. This original version brought together many famous names from the French pop and chanson scenes of that period. A second interpretation was released in 1997, also featuring many musical celebrities. Their combined sales exceeded 2 million copies in France alone.
In December 1980, a television adaptation of this musical fairy tale aired on the French channel Antenne 2.
In March 1981, as part of the French musical TV show L'École des fans, a nine-year-old Vanessa Paradis performed a song from the musical fairy tale. This marked the first public appearance of the future famous actress and singer.
The musical based on Philippe Chatel's fairy tale was first staged in Paris in 1984. A second version of the musical was staged by Philippe Chatel himself in 2002. Its tour across France lasted nearly three years, concluding on January 31, 2005.
Despite the popularity of the musical fairy tale and the musicals based on it, the production of the animated film stretched over nearly ten years.
In addition to the compositions from the original version, three entirely new songs were specifically written and added for the animated feature.
François-Xavier Demaison had never done voice acting for animations before and rarely worked on films for family audiences. He was prompted to agree to participate in the project because he had been a great fan of the story since childhood and knew all its songs by heart.
