Ernest & Celestine: A Trip to Gibberitia

Ernest the bear and Célestine the mouse travel to Ernest's homeland, Gibberitia, so that his broken violin can be repaired. They arrive to find that music of every kind has been outlawed there for years, a situation neither of them can accept. With help from friends and a masked outlaw, the two set out to restore music and happiness to the land of bears.

This animated sequel is directed by Jean-Christophe Roger and Julien Chheng, following their earlier collaboration on The King and the Beaver and coming before Mu Yi and the Handsome General in their filmographies. Guillaume Mautalent and Sébastien Oursel wrote the screenplay, and Damien Brunner and Didier Brunner produced. Lambert Wilson and Pauline Brunner voice the two leads, with Michel Lerousseau, Céline Ronté, Lévanah Solomon and Jean-Marc Pannetier in supporting roles. The film runs 80 minutes and was made in Luxembourg and France by StudioCanal, France 3 Cinéma, Melusine Productions and Folivari.

Released in December 2022, it earned about 4 million dollars worldwide, a modest figure for an animated family feature. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7 out of 10 from roughly 1,200 voters, while on TMDB it stands at 7.2 from around 44 votes. A critics' rating of 7.7 from 25 reviews places it above both audience scores, indicating warmer professional notices than the relatively small public response suggests.
