My Old Ass

Elliott is eighteen, growing up in rural Ontario, and about to leave home for college. On the night of her birthday, she takes magic mushrooms with her closest friends and comes face to face with herself at thirty-nine, a blunt, wisecracking version who arrives full of advice about how the younger Elliott should live. The most emphatic warning concerns a boy named Chad, whom the sober Elliott meets soon afterwards, and the two versions of the same woman keep talking by phone as the summer unfolds. What begins as a caution about romance turns into a reconsideration of family, love and the direction her life is taking.

Megan Park wrote and directed the film, her second feature after The Fallout in 2021 and before Mom Died in 2026. Maisy Stella plays the younger Elliott and Aubrey Plaza the older one, with Percy Hynes White, Maddie Ziegler, Kerrice Brooks and Maria Dizzia in supporting roles. Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Steven M. Rales are among the producers.

The film was released in September 2024 and runs eighty-nine minutes. Made for about three million dollars, it took roughly six million worldwide, a modest return on a small production. On IMDb it holds a 6.9 from around forty-seven thousand votes, and on TMDB a 6.8 from a little over five hundred, so audiences on both platforms rate it similarly.
