Double Impact

Twin brothers are separated as children after their parents are murdered by criminals in Hong Kong. Raised on opposite sides of the world and unaware of each other, they grow into very different men: one becomes a karate instructor in California, the other a smuggler and petty crook in Hong Kong. Around twenty-five years later, a family friend brings them back together and reveals the name of the man responsible for their parents' deaths. The brothers then set out to track down those behind the killings, though trust does not come easily between them.

Double Impact was released in 1991 and runs 110 minutes. It was directed by Sheldon Lettich, who also wrote the screenplay with star Jean-Claude Van Damme. It followed Lettich's Lionheart (1990) and came before Only the Strong (1993), The Order (2001) and The Hard Corps (2005). Van Damme plays both brothers, Alex and Chad, leading a cast that includes Geoffrey Lewis as the family friend Frank Avery, Alonna Shaw as Danielle Wilde, and Bolo Yeung as Moon. Paul Michael Glaser, Van Damme and Ashok Amritraj produced.

Made for about 15 million dollars, the film took roughly 30 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.7 out of 10 from around 47,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.2 out of 10 from about 1,300 votes; a critics' rating of 4.5 out of 10 from 24 reviews places it below both audience scores.
