Set in the late 19th century, this drama follows a young Danish priest sent to a remote region of Iceland. His goals are to establish a church and document the local inhabitants through photography. As he travels through the harsh and unforgiving environment, he struggles with language barriers and the indifference of nature. Over time, the priest drifts away from his religious duties and moral convictions, eventually losing his spiritual balance.
The film was written and directed by Hlynur Pálmason, following his 2019 work A White, White Day. It stars Elliott Crosset Hove as Lucas, alongside Vic Carmen Sonne, Ingvar E. Sigurðsson, Jacob Lohmann, Ída Mekkín Hlynsdóttir, and Waage Sandø. A co-production between Denmark, Iceland, France, and Sweden, the project was produced by Mikkel Jersin, Eva Jakobsen, and Katrin Pors with a crew of 87 people.
Financially, the movie did not recoup its 5 million USD budget, earning 2 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception is generally positive, with a rating of 7.1/10 from 9,600 votes on IMDb and 6.8/10 from 209 votes on TMDB.
