Short description
Clueless is set in a Beverly Hills high school where social standing among wealthy teenagers matters more than almost anything else. Cher, popular, well-dressed and used to getting her way, sees herself as someone who can arrange other people's lives. She sets up two of her teachers, then turns her attention to Tai, a new student with little sense of style, and sets about reshaping her image. The plan works too well, and Cher finds her own position shifting, especially once her ex-stepbrother Josh, whose opinions she has long dismissed, becomes harder to ignore. The film was written and directed by Amy Heckerling, her sixth feature, arriving between Look Who's Talking Too and Loser.
Alicia Silverstone plays Cher, with Stacey Dash as her friend Dionne, Brittany Murphy as Tai, Paul Rudd as Josh, Donald Faison as Murray and Elisa Donovan as Amber. Produced by Scott Rudin and Robert Lawrence for Paramount, it was made for around $12 million and took roughly $57 million worldwide.
On IMDb it holds 6.9/10 from about 276,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.2/10 from a much smaller base of roughly 4,900 votes. A critics' rating of 7/10 across 128 reviews places it in line with how audiences have generally received it.
