Ordinary Angels is a drama set in a small Kentucky town, where Sharon Stevens, a stubborn and determined hairdresser, is struggling to find purpose in her own life. When she learns that a widowed father, Ed Schmitt, is raising two young daughters alone and that the younger girl urgently needs a liver transplant, Sharon commits herself to helping the family. Her efforts grow into a community-wide fundraising campaign that draws in neighbours and strangers alike, and her persistence pushes her to persuade Ed to accept the support being offered. Just as the child is due to reach the hospital, a record snowstorm blankets the state, testing whether the community's resolve can carry the family through.
The film is directed by Jon Gunn, its fourth feature following Do You Believe? and The Case for Christ, and was written by Meg Tilly and Kelly Fremon Craig. Hilary Swank leads as Sharon, with Alan Ritchson as Ed, Emily Mitchell and Skywalker Hughes as his daughters, and Nancy Travis and Tamala Jones in supporting roles.
Released in February 2024, it was made for about 13 million dollars and earned roughly 21 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.4 from 20,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.7 from 436 votes. A critics' rating of 6.6 from 102 reviews places it somewhat below the audience scores.
