Universal Language

Set in a surreal environment between Tehran and Winnipeg, this comedy drama follows several intersecting lives. Two children, Negin and Nazgol, discover money frozen in sidewalk ice and seek a way to retrieve it. Meanwhile, Massoud guides a group of confused tourists through historical sites in Winnipeg. Parallel to this, a man named Matthew leaves his government position in Quebec to visit his estranged mother. In this mysterious setting, space and time blur, and the city's inhabitants speak Persian.

The film was written and directed by Matthew Rankin, who also stars in the production. It marks the first in a chronological list of two films directed by Rankin.
