Short description

Collateral Damage follows Gordy Brewer, a Los Angeles firefighter whose wife and son are killed when a bomb explodes at a Colombian consulate. Having witnessed the attack, and frustrated by an official investigation that he believes will never bring those responsible to justice, Brewer takes matters into his own hands. The bombing is attributed to a terrorist known as Claudio "The Wolf" Perrini, and Brewer travels to Colombia to track him down, a search that draws him into a tangle of military, intelligence and terrorist interests far beyond anything he anticipated.

Andrew Davis directed the film, the eighth in the chronological run of features listed for him, arriving between A Perfect Murder and Holes. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays Brewer, with Francesca Neri, Elias Koteas, Cliff Curtis, John Leguizamo and John Turturro among the supporting cast. Ronald Roose and David and Peter Griffiths wrote the screenplay, and Steven Reuther and David Foster produced for Warner Bros. Pictures and associated companies.

Released in February 2002, the film cost around 85 million US dollars and took roughly 78 million worldwide, so it did not recoup its budget at the box office. Reception was modest across the board: a critics' rating of 4.4 out of 10 from 139 reviews, with IMDb users at 5.5 out of 10 from about 81,000 votes and TMDB users at 5.8 out of 10 from some 1,500 votes.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Filming for the movie took place from September 2000 to March 2001.
  • The plane hijacking scene was originally intended to feature Colombian-American actress Sofia Vergara, but in light of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the hijacking was cut from the script. Furthermore, all scenes that could be considered unpatriotic in any way were removed.
