Analyze That

Mob boss Paul Vitti is back behind bars, and his behaviour in prison raises enough concern that his release is arranged on one condition: he is placed in the care of his former therapist, Dr. Ben Sobel. Sobel has problems of his own, having inherited his father's practice along with a heavy load of stress, so the two men find themselves leaning on each other. As Vitti tries to adjust to life outside the mob, Sobel helps him look for honest work, and he ends up advising a television production about organized crime.

Analyze That is a comedy directed by Harold Ramis, who also wrote the screenplay with Peter Tolan and Peter Steinfeld. It is the eighth film Ramis directed, arriving after Analyze This and Bedazzled and before The Ice Harvest and Year One. Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal reprise their roles as Vitti and Sobel, with Lisa Kudrow returning as Laura Sobel and Joe Viterelli as Jelly; Cathy Moriarty and Joey Diaz also appear. Around a hundred cast members and fifty crew members are credited.

The film was released in December 2002 and runs 96 minutes. Made for about 60 million dollars, it took in roughly 55 million worldwide, a return below its cost. Audiences rate it modestly: on IMDb it sits at 5.9 from 93,000 votes, and on TMDB at 5.8 from 1,441 votes. A critics' rating of 4.9 from 149 reviews places it slightly below the audience scores.
