The King of Algiers

Omar, a veteran gangster, flees to Algeria to escape a twenty-year prison sentence handed down by French authorities. Accompanied by his associate Roger, he attempts to leave behind a history of violence and crime to lead a conventional life. Although Omar finds employment at a pastry factory, he struggles to adapt to a routine devoid of adrenaline. He and Roger eventually fall back into their old habits and begin spending time with a group of young local criminals.

This comedy-drama marks the feature film directorial debut of Elias Belkeddar, who previously worked as a producer and screenwriter on the films Athena and Days of My Glory. The movie stars Reda Kateb as Omar and Benoît Magimel as Roger, supported by a cast including Meriem Amiar, Haroun Attalah, Amani Bentarki, and Maria Bentoumi.
