Those Lips, Those Eyes

Set in 1950s Ohio, the film follows Artie Shoemaker, a medical student who takes a summer job as an assistant at a theater company. Clumsy and out of his depth, he is constantly scolded by the company's director, but he finds an unlikely protector in Harry Crystal, the troupe's leading actor, whom Artie reveres as though he were a Broadway star. Artie also has a reason of his own to stay: he has fallen for Ramona, one of the dancers. Harry, the small-town celebrity of the title, takes it upon himself to help the shy young man win her over.

Michael Pressman directed from a screenplay by David Shaber, with Steven-Charles Jaffe and Pressman producing for United Artists. The film was the first Pressman directed, ahead of Some Kind of Hero, Shootdown, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze and A Season for Miracles. Frank Langella plays Harry Crystal, Glynnis O'Connor plays Ramona and Tom Hulce plays Artie, with Jerry Stiller, Herbert Berghof and Kevin McCarthy in supporting roles.

Released in August 1980 and running 105 minutes, the film mixes comedy, drama, music and romance. It holds a rating of 6.4 out of 10 on IMDb from 363 votes, indicating a modest but enduring viewership.
