Chicken Little has spent a year living down a moment of panic in his hometown of Oakey Oaks. He once told everyone that a piece of the sky had fallen on him, and the town treated him as a liar, a reputation that left him an outcast. His father, Buck Cluck, a former local baseball hero, doubts him too. Hoping to rebuild his name, Chicken Little joins the school baseball team and ends up the hero of an unexpected victory. Then something really does fall out of the sky, and he is sure no one will believe him a second time. Rather than risk more ridicule, he turns to a small circle of friends who are outsiders themselves, among them Runt, Abby Mallard and a fish, and sets out to protect the town from what is coming.
The film is directed by Mark Dindal, whose features before it were Cats Don't Dance and The Emperor's New Groove, and whose later credits include The Garfield Movie. The screenplay is by Steve Bencich, Ron J. Friedman and Ron Anderson, with Randy Fullmer producing. Zach Braff voices Chicken Little, Garry Marshall plays Buck Cluck, and the cast also includes Don Knotts, Amy Sedaris, Steve Zahn and Joan Cusack. Made by Walt Disney Pictures and Walt Disney Feature Animation on a reported budget of 150 million dollars, it took about 314 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.7/10 from 108,000 votes, on TMDB 5.9/10 from 4,263 votes, with critics averaging 5.6/10 across 160 reviews, so audiences and critics landed in much the same place.
