You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah

Stacy Friedman is twelve and counting down to her bat mitzvah, the Jewish coming-of-age ceremony she has long imagined as a spectacular party. Her best friend Lydia is planning her own, and the two have always pictured celebrating together. Their friendship comes under strain, though, when a popular boy named Andy Goldfarb and the everyday turmoil of middle school get in the way, leaving Stacy's plans for the big day in danger of falling apart.

The film is a comedy drama directed by Sammi Cohen, her third feature after Brief in 2017 and Crush in 2022. Alison Peck wrote the screenplay, and Adam Sandler produced alongside Elysa Koplovitz Dutton and Tim Herlihy; Sandler's Happy Madison Productions is one of the production companies. Sunny Sandler plays Stacy, with Samantha Lorraine as Lydia, Dylan Hoffman as Andy, and supporting turns from Dylan Chloe Dash, Millie Thorpe and Miya Cech. The large credited cast and crew reflect a full-scale studio production.

Released in August 2023, the film runs 103 minutes. On IMDb it holds 5.9 from around 28,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.5 from roughly 543 votes. A critics' rating of 6.9 from 80 reviews places it above the audience scores, suggesting reviewers responded more warmly than the general viewing public did.
