Short description
Carnivàle is an American television series set in the United States during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl. In tracing the lives of two disparate groups of people, its overarching story depicts the battle between good and evil and the struggle between free will and destiny; the storyline mixes Christian theology with gnosticism and Masonic lore, particularly that of the Knights Templar.

What's left behind the scenes
- It literally took months to create just the introduction for each performance.
- Initially, the series' ratings were decent, but they dropped significantly by the end of the first season. During the second season, ratings began to slowly rise again, but the production of the series became increasingly expensive. On May 11, 2005, HBO announced the cancellation of the project, despite many plotlines remaining unresolved. Many viewers were furious; some organized petitions, while others bombarded the network with demands for a continuation. According to the president of HBO, at the peak of the campaign to save the project, the network received 50,000 emails in a single weekend.
