What's left behind the scenes

  • Initially, the series' ratings were satisfactory, but they declined over time. According to the literary consultant, this happened, in part, due to the series 'Webster' (1983-1989) and 'Mr. Belvedere' (1985-1990), which aired on Friday nights almost simultaneously with 'The Twilight Zone'.
  • The episode 'A Message from Charity' was filmed on the sets of a Californian Wild West town. This town was part of the Warner Bros. studio and was used in 1952 for the filming of the western 'High Noon.' The film was directed by Fred Zinnemann and starred Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly. After filming was completed, the sets were quickly dismantled.
  • Showrunner Philip DeGeer Jr. happened to share the same literary agent as writer George R.R. Martin. Being a devoted fan of the Grateful Dead, the agent passed Martin's book 'The Armageddon Noise' (his fourth novel, published in 1983, a dark fantasy about a world of rock music) to DeGeer Jr. DeGeer Jr. liked the novel so much that he became passionate about adapting it for the screen, but the novel's sales had been a failure. Regardless, DeGeer Jr. and Martin continued to maintain a friendly relationship.
