What's left behind the scenes
- Sybil Sheward was often filmed with a diffusion filter to make her look on screen like the movie divas of the 1940s.
- The role of Maddie was written specifically for Sybil Sheward.
- In many episodes, close-ups of Maddie's legs are shown as she walks to her office. The series creator, Glenn Gordon Carron, later admitted that this was done intentionally to give the writers time to refine the script. The scripts were constantly being rewritten, and it often happened that filming began while the script was still a work in progress. While the viewer was shown the lead character's legs, Carron was urgently finishing the script.
- The relationship between Sibyl Shepard and Bruce Willis was strained from the very start of filming, and the release of the action movie 'Die Hard' (John McTiernan, 1988) with Willis in the lead role only added to the tension. Willis disliked that he, having become a top-tier star overnight, was listed second in the series credits.
