What's left behind the scenes

  • Nearly 900 costume sets were used.
  • The pistol Belov uses starting from 1995 (episode 10) is a Walther P-99, which did not appear until 1997.
  • At the summer house in 1989, where Belov and his friends meet with the swimmers, Belyi plays Evgeny Belousov's song 'Devchonka-devchonka,' which wasn't released until 1991.
  • The film features 110 speaking roles.
  • In episode 10, which depicts events from 1995, around the 40-minute mark, a Chevrolet Niva can be seen among a row of parked cars; however, this model has only been in production since 2002.
  • For filming, it was necessary to find a 1980s-style telephone booth. The right booth was found in Lyubertsy, and the required scene was filmed there. A week after filming, the booth was replaced, and no more of those booths remained in Lyubertsy.
  • A scene unique in its preparation complexity: the filming of the Mercedes-600 explosion on Taras Shevchenko Embankment (practically under the windows of the 'White House').
  • In the first episode (set in 1989), the Luzhniki Stadium is visible with a roof during the scene at Vorobyovy Gory. The stadium's roof was not actually installed until 1997.
  • Most of the scenes were filmed in Moscow, with some scenes filmed in Dubna and Taldom (specifically, the fight scene at the station, which according to the plot took place in the Chechen Republic).
  • At the beginning of the film (1989), a Gazelle is visible in the frame twice (production of which only began in 1994).
  • In the second episode, the car driven by A. Inshakov's character features Russian license plates, which were not introduced until 1993-1994.
  • Work on the series took 2 years. Filming took place from September 2000 to September 2001. Editing also took several months.
  • In the apartment where Belov and Phil are hiding after the failed assassination attempt on Belov in the autumn of 1994, there is a poster for the movie 'Die Hard with a Vengeance'; however, the movie itself was not released until 1995.
  • Filming took place at 350 locations, including the Government House and Butyrka Prison.
  • The scene featuring the shelling of the Opera's apartment is unparalleled in domestic cinema; approximately 500 'squibs' (bullet hit simulators) were installed in a single room of about 30 square meters.
  • At the time of production, it was the most expensive Russian series. It was shot on film, with the budget for a single episode reaching nearly 200 thousand dollars.
  • In the eighth episode, at the 12-minute mark, a Center-Avia aircraft is visible. This airline was only founded in 1999, yet the events of the episode take place in 1993.
  • In 1995, Sasha Bely is shown playing the computer game 'Quake II', which wasn't released until December 1997. Furthermore, he uses a railgun on the first level of the game, indicating the use of cheat codes.
  • While Bely is talking to his image consultants in the office, he approaches them with an almost full cup of coffee, then finishes it, but in the next shot, he is holding a half-full cup again.
  • Nikolai Eremenko played his final role in this film.
  • The fleet used in the production consisted of over 100 vehicles, including: Moskvitch 2140s, Volgas, Zhigulis, 4 Chevrolet Suburbans, 6 Mercedes 600s, a Mercedes C-230, 3 Mercedes 124s, 4 Volvos, 5 BMWs, a Jeep Cherokee, a Lamborghini SUV, a Daimler, 3 Mitsubishi Pajeros, a Lincoln Town Car, 2 Lincoln Limousines, a Mercedes ML, a Hyundai Galloper, a Chrysler, 4 Toyota Land Cruisers, a SAAB, an Isuzu Trooper, an Alfa Romeo, a Mercedes G-Wagon, 3 Audis, 3 Chevrolet hearses, and an exclusive Mercedes Brabus.
  • In the 8th episode at 4:09, the entire film crew and the camera are clearly visible in the reflection of the suitcase.
  • In the episode where Olya is driving and Max is in the passenger seat, and Pchelkinn calls her to arrange a meeting at a pharmacy, some shots show her driving a Toyota Land Cruiser 80, but by the time she arrives at the pharmacy, the car has changed to an Isuzu Trooper.
  • In the first episode, Lena arrives in a GAZ-31029 taxi—the film is set in 1989. The GAZ-31029 Volga is a Russian car produced in series from 1992 to 1997 by the Gorky Automobile Plant.
  • Farhad's murder takes place at the Ferris Wheel (1993), which will not open until 1997 for the 850th anniversary of Moscow.
  • A month before filming began, the film's producer, Anatoly Sivushov, housed the four main characters in a retreat center so that they could truly bond.
  • Kosmos's stepmother says: "Your son will be robbing the 'Central Bank' any day now!" The term 'Central Bank' would not appear until two years later, in 1991.
