Short description

A much more lavish version of the popular Superman television series which had first aired forty years earlier, Lois & Clark focused more on the Man of Steel's early adult years in Metropolis. With the unknowing help of Lois Lane, Clark Kent created Superman there in Metropolis after finding work at the world-famous Daily Planet newspaper, where he meets fellow reporter Lois Lane.

What's left behind the scenes

  • According to executive producer Brad Buckner, at the end of the series, Lois and Clark were supposed to find a baby at their door—a representative of Krypton's ruling dynasty. If the series had been renewed for a fifth season, Lois and Clark would have had to protect the baby from assassins.
  • Gerard Christopher auditioned for the role of Superman. He was initially cast, but it later came to light that the actor had previously played Superboy in the series of the same name (1988-1992), and he was replaced.
  • A fifth season was originally planned, but the series' airtime was later changed, ratings dropped, and the decision was made to cancel the show.
  • Dean Cain, who played Clark Kent/Superman, and Teri Hatcher, who played Lois Lane, are the only actors to appear in all 87 episodes without exception.
  • The series had been in production for several years by the time the comic book authors finally decided to marry off Clark Kent and Lois Lane. The show's producers also wanted to include this twist in the storyline and did not want to fall behind the comic authors. When it was decided that the weddings in the series and the comics should coincide, the comic authors had to come up with something to keep readers occupied in the meantime. This led to the famous 'Death of Superman' storyline (1992-1993), the title of which was later changed to 'The Death and Return of Superman'.
