Short description

RoboCop: The Series is a 1994 television series based on the film of the same name. It stars Richard Eden as the title character. Made to appeal primarily to children and young teenagers, it lacks the graphic violence that was the hallmark of RoboCop and RoboCop 2. RoboCop has several non-lethal alternatives to killing criminals, which ensures that certain villains can be recurring. The OCP Chairman and his corporation are treated as simply naïve and ignorant, in contrast to their malicious and immoral behavior from the second film onward.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The opening credits roll over footage from the very first film of the RoboCop franchise (Paul Verhoeven, 1987).
  • The series was cancelled after its first season due to low viewership and scathing press reviews.
  • Over 4,500 square meters of space at the Toronto studio were allocated to recreate Detroit and its surroundings, as well as the OCP corporation headquarters.
  • RoboCop's gun in the series is a lightweight version of the 9mm weapon from the franchise's first film. A new version became necessary when it turned out that transporting real weapons into Canada involved certain difficulties. Soon, however, it became clear that it was easier for the actor in the RoboCop suit to handle a lighter weapon.
