What's left behind the scenes

  • The wedding has a clear Ancient Roman influence. In Ancient Greece, the bride wore a white dress and covered her face with a thick yellow veil, and during the feast, women sat separately from the men (who reclined). In the film, Clytemnestra's dress and veil are red, her face is uncovered, and all the guests are reclining.
  • Agamemnon lures Iphigenia with an engagement to Achilles and attempts to save her; in the film, the girl is brought to the altar, and Agamemnon cold-bloodedly kills his daughter.
  • In Homer's original, Cassandra receives the gift of prophecy from Apollo and rejects his love, for which he punishes her by making her prophecies unbelievable; in the film, her visions appear in childhood, and it is unknown who bestowed the gift upon the girl.
  • Penelope could not have been weaving the shroud since the war had not yet ended, and Odysseus only learned of his wife's trick after returning to Ithaca.
  • Menelaus and Helen had a daughter, Hermione, who was abandoned by her mother for Paris at the age of nine; in the film, Helen has no children at all, creating the impression that she is infertile.
  • Byzantium and Persian silk are mentioned. The city of Byzantium was founded in the 7th century BC, and the silk trade began in the 4th century BC, whereas the Trojan War dates back to the 13th–12th century BC.
  • In Homer's original, Tyndareus allows Helen to choose her own husband, and she chooses Menelaus, whom she loves; in the film, Helen has no feelings for Menelaus, and he wins her in a lottery.
  • Certain aspects of the original legend of Helen of Troy were altered in this project. The gods play virtually no role in the lives of the characters, Helen has no children, and it is not explained how Cassandra acquired her prophetic gift. The series depicts the events as a brutal historical occurrence, with supernatural elements kept to a minimum.
