Mahabharat is a 2013 drama TV series on Star Plus based on Indian legendary epic of the same name. It has been produced by Swastik Pictures and features actors such as Saurabh Raj Jain as Lord Krishna, Shaheer Sheikh as Arjuna, Pooja Sharma as Draupadi, Aham Sharma as Karna and Arav Chowdhary as Bhishma Pitamah. The producers had creative associations with writer Salim Khan, author Devdutt Pattanaik, designer Bhanu Athaiya, music directors Ajay-Atul and Ismail Darbar, action director Ram Shetty and set designer Omang Kumar. The casting of the show is done by Sahil Ansari, Mahesh Chandra Bhatt, Arun Mitra. It started broadcasting on 16 September 2013.

What's left behind the scenes
- The series gained immense popularity not only in India but also in Indonesia. In that country, Shaheer Sheikh was elevated to the status of an A-list star and appeared in numerous films and series.
- Before filming began, some actors took stage speech lessons for a year.
- Saurabh Raj Jain, who played the role of Krishna, shared that some episodes (specifically those regarding the "Bhagavad Gita") were originally intended to be filmed outdoors; however, after reviewing the script, he insisted on filming in studio pavilions. In the actor's opinion, the dialogues should be recorded live, without any overdubs or layering. Outdoor filming would have inevitably required overdubs and layering, which in turn would have affected the quality of the acting. The producers agreed with this view, and the corresponding episodes were filmed in the studio.
- The project's budget was $64 million, with an additional $5.1 million spent on advertising.
- Over 400 people worked on the project, 200 of whom were involved in graphics.
- According to producer Siddhartha Kumar Tewari, the entire project took 4 years to complete.
- The Gujarat sets were constructed in the Valsad district under the direction of art director Omung Kumar. Costume designers Nidhi Jasha and Bhanu Athaiya reviewed 450 books to find information on the costumes of the relevant historical period, as well as the fabrics and jewelry used at the time.
- Before filming the undressing scene, actress Pooja Sharma sprayed orange juice into her eyes to make them look red.
